HVAC Apprenticeship
Opportunities in the Upper Keys start this January.
The HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) apprenticeship program prepares students for advancement as a residential or commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating technician.
Apprentices are employed full-time (PAID w/raises). Classes are FREE and on-the-job training is completed during the workday.
Graduates of the program earn “journeyman” status as well as state and national credentials, positioning them well for a strong career in a growing job market.
Job Outlook:
The median annual wage for HVAC mechanics and installers was $48,730 in May 2019. Employment of HVAC mechanics and installers is projected to grow 4 percent from 2019 to 2029, faster than the average for all occupations. Training & Coursework:
- Fabrication of system components
- System installation and connection
- Electric supply lines and cables
- Water services lines
- Air supply lines
- Equipment installation
- System maintenance, trouble shooting, and testing
- Equipment repair
- Safety procedures
- Care and safe use of tools, materials, and equipment
Apprentices are required to work a total of 8,004 hours On-the-Job Training (OJT) and attend 576 supplemental classroom instructional hours. Upon successful completion of the program, the apprentice will have received a four-level certification by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and will be issued a nationally recognized Completion of Apprenticeship certificate by the State of Florida.
