CFK Tugas overcome frigid temps at 2025 TYR SoFlo Open swim meet
The College of the Florida Keys (CFK) swim team competed at the 2025 TYR SoFlo Open held from January 24-26, 2025 held in Pembroke Pines, FL. Despite air temperature as low as 45 degrees and water temperature of 75 degrees, the Tugas men's and women's teams delivered multiple personal bests, national qualifications, and broken school records.
Five CFK swimmers qualified for nationals in a total of 14 events. Isabella Oliverio secured her spot in the 200-yard backstroke, while the men's team saw Kaemon Fagley, Eddie Kertis, Drew Lebsack, and Lucas Montiel de la Nuez qualifying in various events.
The men's team broke two school records. The 200-yard medley relay team of Fagley, Kertis, Lebsack, and Montiel de la Nuez set a new record with a time of 1:52.47. The same quartet also broke the 200-yard freestyle relay record, clocking in at 1:40.17.
Several swimmers achieved personal best times. Teagan Lavin improved in the 50-yard breaststroke and 100-yard Individual Medley, while Victoria Mayor set new personal records in the 50-yard freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly. Oliverio bettered her time in the 200-yard backstroke. On the men's side, Fagley achieved personal bests in the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, and 100-yard Individual Medley, while Kertis improved in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke.
The Tugas will next compete at the Stanton C. Craigie Memorial Invitational meet, February 7- 9, in Ft. Pierce, FL.
