CFK will be closed December 17 - January 1. Happy Holidays!

The College of the Florida Keys (CFK) celebrated the grand opening of its new Upper Keys Center in Key Largo today. More than 100 community leaders, elected officials, and partners, employees, and supporters of the College gathered for a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch the opening the highly anticipated new center, prominently positioned on the Overseas Highway.

CFK President Dr. Jonathan Gueverra shared his gratitude for the efforts of many. “Thank you for your support, your indulgence, your willingness to dream, to trust, to contribute financially, to take a major leap for the betterment of our community, and for every person who will benefit by what happens within these walls over the years.” He added, “This is only the beginning, but it is a beginning that represents hope and opportunity that results in social and economic mobility for our entire upper Keys community.”

At the new 38,000-square foot center, the College offers bachelor’s and associate degrees as well as workforce training. Programs that are available this upcoming Fall semester include nursing, paramedic, business administration, supervision and management, construction technologies, hospitality, public safety, general studies, and Project ACCESS, which provides opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities. Marine science programs will be added in Spring 2022. The Upper Keys Center also houses a testing center, which provides access to thousands of professional testing and certification exams.

The public is invited to learn more at two Open House events on Wednesday, August 11 and Thursday, August 12, both from 4 to 7 p.m. Visitors will be able to tour the new center and learn about the expanded academic and workforce training opportunities now available. CFK staff will be on-hand to help incoming students complete the application, register for classes, and find answers to any questions they may have.

In celebration of the grand opening of the new center, the College is offering a “Take 2, Get 1” enrollment special. Students who register for and complete two or more classes, or at least six credits, this Fall semester will receive one free class, up to three credits, in Spring 2022. At least one class must be at the Upper Keys Center for each semester.

Fall classes start August 19. CFK’s Upper Keys Center will be open to the public, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., beginning August 9.

Construction of the new Upper Keys Center was made possible through a $16 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) as well as through privately raised funds from local sources.
